10.20.08 Saturday night saw the Gulf Coast Slingshots in a National event showdown at Penton Speedway. The first heat saw Shawn Cater on the pole with Seth Wilson sitting outside of Cater. Cater set the pace from the drop of the green as he continued on taking the checkers in heat one. The second qualifying heat of the night saw the # 19 of Matthew Wyatt sitting on the pole.
On the drop of the green, Wyatt jumped out early while Wilson, Achenbach, English and Cater tied up in turn two. The Slingshot’s piloted by Wilson, English and Cater came out unscathed however Achenbach’s Lucas Oil, Martin’s Restaurants, CMA Motorsports # 41, came away with front end damage and would not be a contender the remainder of the evening. Wyatt showed consistency lap after lap, clipping off lap times that guaranteed him to win heat two.
With the Feature being set, Wilson and English battled upfront lap after lap. Kurt English worked hard trying to get his # 17 Slingshot around Seth Wilson but just could not find the room to make it stick. English made one last attempt on the final lap coming of turn four but Wilson was not to be denied as he pushed his Eton Auto Sales, Petty Dairy # 99 across the checkers capturing the National win. Rounding out the top three, would be English in second and Matthew Wyatt third.
The Gulf Coast Slingshots will head to Dawgwood Speedway in Chatsworth, GA for their final National race and run for the checkers this coming weekend.

Slingshot by Tobias Elite 11 Still Not Settled
10.13.08 As the Slingshot by Tobias National Championship is quickly coming to a close there is not one single position that is finalized. The top 4 national finishes and the best home track or regional point finish is added in to get the overall National Champion.
Currently sitting atop the standings is "The Riegelsville Racer" Jim Housworth with Ben "Flipper" Whitaker using his National win at Paradise Speedway to close the gap. Whitaker still has 1 less race to use for his point totals and with Nationals coming to Linda's, Borgers and Dawgwood, there are plenty of opportunities left for Ben to slot in at number 1.
Emily VanInwegen is currently 3rd after her amazing run at the Reading Nostalgia Nationals put her into the National Championship fold.
Not to be counted out are 2 drivers from New Jersey who have seen victory lane countless times in 2008 with Matt "The Flemington Flyer" Carman and "Rapid" Rob Marino from Frenchtown all within a good finish to overtake the current top 3.
Mike Carman, "Sassy" Shannon Smith, "Broadway" Billy VanInwegen,Sr., Billy Clark and "The Roopville Rocket" Shawn Cater all need a good run late in the season to make some headway to the top.Currently on the bubble right now is the only Slingshot driver hailing from North Carolina, Kurt English. Kurt still has a chance to stir the pot with the Dawgwood National in his back yard scheduled for Oct 24 and 25th.
Great Lakes racer Lucas Schott will be using his Button Buck point championship in his attempt to crack the Elite 11.
Waiting in the wings and still have a strong chance to be receiving an Elite 11 point fund check are Seth Wilson. Brett Bieber, Chris Achenbach, Bill "The Dream" Weaver, "The Flyin' Female" Kaitie McCardle, Parker Hale and Mark "Sparky" Berkenstock.
It's never over until the final checkered is thrown and for these drivers their chance to be part of the National Championship Elite 11 is what they make of it in the next 2 weeks.
